Summer Reading Kick Off!

The SAU library invites all faculty and staff to take advantage of the different events during the months of June and July.

This Wednesday, June 3rd is the Kick Off Party for the Summer Reading program. 2:30pm-4pm. Enjoy a Whitey’s root beer float (if you do not consume dairy, there will be an alternative) and sign up to participate in the program. The grand prize will be a Kindle, and that will be awarded on July 29th.

Short Story Discussions hosted by Anita Niemczyk and Bryan Hinds will be every Tuesday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm, beginning June 9th. Come to one or come to all!  The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County by Mark Twain will be the first story and there will be copies of the story available at the Kick Off Party.

June 10th the library is hosting an all day event called Murder in the Library. The library staff has been alerted that Dewey Decimal might be ‘checking out’ sometime after closing on June 9th and we’ll need the SAU community to use their detective skills to try and solve the crime. Do you have what it takes to collect the evidence at the crime scene and examine suspect files to determine who murdered Dewey?

Speaking of murder and suspense, crime novelist and native Iowan, Donald Harstad will be at the SAU Library on Wednesday,  June 17th at 2pm and then again at 7pm. The SAU library has several of his mysteries that are set in a fictional Iowa town. The event is free and open to the public.

Later in July, watch for more details on another new event, Book Speed Dating – come and find your book match in 5 minutes. Malavika Shrikhande and Karly Lyle will be the moderators.
