Collections Clam is here to welcome all incoming freshmen! Did you know that freshmen had to wear beanies such as these? Beanies were used to identify the freshmen so upperclassmen could welcome them to campus or “haze” them.
When St. Ambrose went coed in 1969, female freshmen were also made to wear beanies. However, some of the guys used the hazing custom to harass the female students. At that point President Rogalski worked to discontinue the customs of wearing beanies and hazing freshmen.
