The American Library Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago have partnered to encourage libraries nationwide to host personal finance programs. This year, the SAU Library is happy to take part and we are offering several events to do our best to help everyone become money smart!
We are pleased to welcome two speakers, Lupe Hernandez and Eileen Eitrheim, who will each present talks on financial topics that many college students will face or are already facing. Lupe is a Student Success Advisor with the Iowa College Access Network (ICAN). Elieen Eitrheim teaches marketing at St. Ambrose. The dates, times and locations for their talks are listed below:
Lupe Hernandez, “Life After College”
Monday, April 7, 7 p.m.
Eileen Eitrheim, “I Have My First Job – Now What?”
Thursday, April 10, 7 p.m.
While the discussion may be geared towards students, both are free and open to the public and all are welcomed to attend.
In addition to the speakers, the library will play host to two Money Smart contests:
Guess the Stash
A display case in the atrium of the library will have packets of real shredded money from the Federal Reserve. Make a guess on the amount of money in the case and be entered into a drawing to win a prize!
DASH for the Stash
This is a week-long contest with high stakes prizes! Check the library atrium for daily clues. Use your smart phone or a nearby computer to answer questions on the slides and posters about investing.
If you are a member of the public: the prize is $1,000 into an IRA.
If you are a current college student: the prize is $1,000 toward college tuition from the Iowa JumpStart Coalition (Geocache for College Cash).
